Becky G follows with four wins, including song of the year for the Karol-assisted “MAMIII.”
Karol G was the big winner at the 2023 Latin American Music Awards, taking home eight awards in total, including artist of the year, tour of the year (for $trip Love) and streaming artist of the year. The Colombian star was not in attendance but many others were, including Becky G, who collected four awards and accepted song of the year and collaboration of the year for her Karol-assisted girl anthem “MAMIII.”
The Mexican-American singer took the stage to say that women are stronger united. “This is bigger than us. This is girl power. Thank you to the fans for supporting us.” It wasn’t the only time she took the stage to accept an award. Becky — who also performed “Chanel” with Peso Pluma — went up again when she was awarded best collaboration — regional Mexican for “Ya Acabó” with Marca MP.
“Wow, I’m crying. I’ve always talked about the importance of being Latina but, most importantly, my Mexican pride. Many genres have inspired me, but being Mexican not only inspires my music but my way of working, the way I spend time with my family. I have Mexican blood in me. And to all my 200 percent out there, you are enough.”
Overall, it was a big night for Música Mexicana with artists such as Grupo Frontera and Carin Leon also taking the stage for performances. Leon took the stage three times to perform solo, alongside Frontera and then again for a special medley to honor Legacy Award recipient Pepe Aguilar.
Other special honorees were Carlos Vives — who also received the Legacy Award — and David Bisbal and Prince Royce both took the Pioneer Award.
Additional winners include Bad Bunny, who took home three trophies, and Junior H, Rosalía, Shakira, Romeo Santos and The Weeknd, each with two.
