Bill Dawes is an actor, comedian and writer who splits his time between Los Angeles and Texas. Bill got an MFA from NYU in acting and has been on Broadway in 3 plays and Off-Broadway over a dozen times. However, soon into his theatre career, Bill realized he needed a way to express his own voice and point of view. So one night, a college friend got him inebriated and introduced to his first open mic as a standup comedian.
After that not afford that, Bill pursued a career as a standup comic while simultaneously focusing on his lifelong dream of one day holding an Oscar, preferably one he won.
Since moving to LA, Bill became a paid regular at the World Famous Laugh Factory with over 50 videos on their website. He’s performed two specials for Mark Cuban’s AXSTV and another for Comedy Dynamics. He’s also performed in over 5 comedy festivals and 15 countries, including a USO tour of Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait for the US troops.
As an actor, Bill has over 40 TV credits, including “Sex and the City,” all of the “Law and Order” shows, Criminal Minds, Rookie: FEDS, City on a Hill, Manhunt, Damages, SWAT, The Good Fight, the hit new NETFLIX comedy series MO, and the upcoming series Wedding Season on Hulu, and Alaska Daily with 2-time Oscar winner Hillary Swank.
Bill has also been in over 30 feature and short films, including Adam, I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell, Before the Sun Explodes (which he co-wrote and co-produced), Encounter with Riz Ahmed, and Beautiful Violence, which has garnered him 13 acting award nominations and several wins.
Bill lives as a minimalist so he can travel, pursue his dreams, and provide the best life possible for his baby daughter, Jupiter. Although it’s nice to live a luxurious life, Bill prefers a life of purpose making people laugh and telling stories in every medium possible to leave behind a legacy worth remembering.
