Zoë Doyle

Zoë Doyle runs a UK W40 Mile Record

Zoë Doyle ran 5:03.96 at the Ayo Falola dream mile at Lee Valley on the 16th of February 2022. It was previously held in 2008 by Bernadine Pritchett in 5:06.42 from Boston.

Double World Masters indoor champion Zoë Doyle was unaware of the record until the lunchtime of the race. Peter Scott, the race organizer had put on Facebook the records that were likely to be broken. He also contacted Zoë to ask if she had a favorite song she would like to be played during the race. Zoë was determined to take the opportunity to break her first British record. The British milers club offered a pacer, Hannah Knight, to help her break the record pacing for the first two laps. Donald Brown on the microphone helped get the spectators to cheer the athletes on. We found love by Rihanna played. Zoë running without a clock finished over the line, collapsed on the floor, and asked did I do it? Then hugged her training partner Steve Roberts.

It was a momentous evening. Six UK indoor records were broken.
4:33.08 T O’Brien UK M50 record, 4:58.23 C Ridley UK M60 record, 5:04.01 P Forbes UK M65 record, 5:36.03 D Jackson UK M70 record,
